CYHSB Curriculum

General Studies Curriculum

Students complete a traditional four-year college preparatory curriculum consisting of the following:

  • Four years of English (including grammar, composition and World, American and British literature.
  • One year of World History.
  • One year of US History.
  • One year of Civics/Economics.
  • Four years of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biology II). The fourth year may be AP Biology or AP Chemistry.
  • One year of Jewish History, i.e. Zionism, Holocaust Studies, Ancient Jewish History, etc.
  • Four years of Mathematics (which may include AP Calculus).
  • Three years of Hebrew Language.
  • One year of Health/PE
  • Four years of electives (which may include Speech, Creative Writing, Spanish, psychology, digital video production and others).
  • One year, or more, of Computer Science

Torah Studies Curriculum

  • Four years of Talmud.
  • Four years of Bible and Prophets.
  • Four years of Jewish Law
  • Four years of electives which include Rabbinic Thought and Literature, Mishna and Jewish Philosophy/Hashkafa

Community Service

In addition, students are required to perform a minimum of 20 hours of community service each year as part of the Louis Cooper Gemillat Chesed Program. Students have been active in a number of service activities including raising money for victims of Hurricane Katrina, feeding the homeless, visits to nursing homes and Alzheimer's clinics and babysitting for families with unfortunate circumstances.

AP Offerings

Despite the small size of the school, students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement courses in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, American History, European History, Art History, English Literature and Composition, Calculus and Psychology. The AP course offerings are decided yearly and are based upon interest and student enrollment.
