2009/2010 School Committees

O

ur committees do the heavy lifting needed to keep our school great. EXECUTIVE – Brad Somer

  • Administers and assists in overall implementation of Schools’ mission and purpose.
  • Assists HOS in planning and supervising curricula in both secular and Judaic departments.
  • Establishes and implements human resource requirements.
  • With BOT’s Rabbinic membership, deal with halachic (Jewish law) matters in the School

COMMITTEE ON TRUSTEES – David Cooper

  • Makes careful analysis of current BOT strengths and weaknesses and makes recommendations accordingly to Executive Committee.
  • Develops a profile needs assessment for individuals to serve.
  • Develops a plan to identify, attract, and cultivate ideal prospective members whether they are from our parent body or community at large.
  • Designs and implements Board member evaluations.
  • Attends all committee meetings.
    • NOMINATING – David Cooper
      • Made up of immediate past president (who serves as Chair), President of PTA/LA, and 3 Trustees.
      • Recommends election of members and officers to BOT.
      • Follows the Board of Trustee guidelines as previously stated.
    • MEMBERSHIP AND RECRUITMENT – David Cooper
      • Develops a plan to identify, attract and cultivate ideal prospective members and new Patrons.
      • Follows the Board of Trustee guidelines as previously stated.

FINANCE AND BUDGET (F&B) – David Katz and Aileen Cooper.

  • Develops and sets the school’s operational budget.
  • Develops and sets the fiscal standards for the school.
  • Develops the budget for the Scholarship Committee allocation process.
  • Develops and monitors accounts receivable plan for all monies owed to the school.
  • Monitors cash flow.
  • Reviews fiscal reports generated by the Business Office.
  • Attends all B&F committee meetings.
  • Assists Chair of Financial Resource Development Committee in new project development and fundraising efforts.
  • Follows the Board of Trustee Guidelines as previously stated.
  • Reports directly to the President.

HOUSE COMMITTEE: BUILDING & FACILITIES – Joel Siegel

  • Conducts regular evaluations of the school’s physical plant and makes recommendations to the BOT and B&F committee regarding required maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
  • Conducts regular evaluations of the school’s physical plant to ascertain whether it meets the educational needs of the school and its students and accordingly makes recommendations to the Strategic Planning Committee.

STRATEGIC PLANNING – Ellen Stecker Tavin

  • Oversees the development of the school’s long and short term strategic planning
    process.
  • Involves appropriate chairs, officers and members of the school community in the development of the school’s strategic plan.
  • Initiates information gathering process surveys.

FIVE YEAR FINANCIAL PROJECTION TASK FORCE – Aileen Cooper

  • Researches and creates five year financial projection outlook.
  • Consults and supports B&F, FRD and Strategic Planning Committees.

FINANCIAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (FRD) – Josh Kahane

Oversees the establishment and implementation of committees and committee chairs for the following events:

  • Operational Campaign & Dinner.
  • Sweepstakes Raffle
  • Annual Auction
  • Ad Journal Committee
  • Scholarship Banquet Committee
  • Major and Planned Gifts Initiatives
  • OPERATIONAL CAMPAIGN TASK FORCE
    • Identifies potential donors to the Operational Campaign.
    • Agrees to solicit at least 5 prospects for the Annual Campaign.
    • Follows the Board of Trustee guidelines as previously stated.
  • MAJOR GIFTS TASK FORCE
    • Develops appropriate initiative to attract major donors.
    • Identifies potential major donors for all MHA/FYOS Campaigns.
    • Evaluates and implements appropriate methodology for solicitation of Major Gifts.
    • Works with other campaign leadership to rate and assign donor prospects.
    • Implements long term program for cultivation of “meaningful” gifts from potential major donors.
    • Implements planned giving program.

CONSTITUTIONAL AND POLICY REVIEW - Seth Kaufman

  • Reviews School’s Constitution.
  • Recommends Amendments and/or Revisions.
  • At HOS’s request, sounding board for new school policies.
  • Reviews proposed school policies.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – Josh Kahane

  • Works with the administration to promote the positive image of MHA/FYOS in the school and greater community.
  • Develop proposals for school Marketing and Branding Strategy.
  • Develop school website.
  • Coordinate the calendar for all school/PTA events that reach out to the community with the school administration.
  • Plans and implements programs in coordination with the PTA to welcome new families to the school community (e.g. new family receptions, welcome wagons).
  • Establish task forces on Recruitment
  • Establish and Oversee Alumni Development initiative.
  • Works in coordination with Communications committee to liaison with community leaders and fulfill a marketing/sales strategy.
  • Establish and Oversee Volunteerism development.

PUBLICITY – Julie Belz

  • Creates publications for community members residing in Memphis, parents out of town, and those looking to move to community.
  • Works with Parent and Community Engagement Committee to provide feedback and offer suggestions on print materials, new media, and other forms of communication.
  • Lead ongoing focus group efforts in conjunction with administration.
  • Provide market research analysis for other committees as needed.
  • Liaison with community leaders in advocacy for the school.
  • Work in conjunction with Parent and Community Engagement committee.
  • Reports directly to the President.

EDUCATION – Rabbi Dr. Gil Perl

  • Works in conjunction with Executive Committee in supervising curricula in both secular and Judaic departments.

FEDERATION/JEWISH FOUNDATION LIAISON – TBD

  • Maintains strong and positive relations with MJF and Foundation.
  • Maximize annual grant and aid allocation.
  • Works with Parent and Community Engagement and Publicity committees

SCHOLARSHIP

  • Develops guidelines and procedures for the equitable distribution of financial assistance needed by families who either need assistance beyond that provided by Federation or do not qualify under Federation guidelines.
  • Reviews scholarship applications and makes financial assistance grants based upon demonstrated need and resources made available by the B&F committee.
  • Attends all committee meetings.
