Elementary and Middle School Teaching Positions 

 

The Margolin Hebrew Academy is a small, warm, Jewish private school in Memphis, TN seeking dynamic, progressive teachers to teach various general studies classes including 3rd grade and middle school. Part Time and Full Time positions are available.

 

Job description of a Lead Teacher:

The elementary school lead teacher is responsible for implementing the academic program as outlined by the division head and the agreed upon school curriculum. General Studies teachers will develop activities, use outside sources and technology that enhance the curriculum of their assigned class.  The curriculum must meet the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of the children in the class. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements appropriate daily activities to meet the needs of the students in the class.

  • Responsible for the safety of each child.

  • Interacts with children throughout the day and encourages their interactions in the classroom.

  • Provides a clean and orderly environment for the children.

  • Keeps a record of each child’s progress throughout the year.

  • Maintains written records and assessments on children. Enters grades on Renweb weekly.

  • Maintains good communication with parents and follows the communication policy in the handbook.

  • Supervises assistant teacher’s interactions and responsibility in the classroom.

  • Ensures the confidentiality of each student’s records.

  • Adheres to all school policies and procedures, including board of education and NAEYC requirements.

  • Performs additional program duties as assigned by the lower school principal or the head of the school.

  • Reports to school on time and stays the full designated allotment.

  • Assigns appropriate homework as per the guidelines set out in the faculty handbook.

  • Report any student concerns, academic or social-emotional, to the Lower School Principal.

  • Integrate appropriate use of technology into the classroom in order to enhance or supplement the curriculum.

 

Other duties:

  • Attends all staff meetings, all grade level meetings, and all parent meetings.

  • Maintains daily attendance records

  •  Attends monthly meetings with the Lower School Principal.

  • Attends all in-service days.

  • Fills out report cards four times per year

  • Writes a weekly newsletter to parents.

  • Submits weekly lesson plans each week by Monday morning.

  • Fulfills weekly duties: AM hallway duty, lunch duty, dismissal duty as designated by the Lower School Principal.

  • Will adhere to all policies and procedures as laid out in the Faculty handbook.

  • Will be familiar with all safety drills and review them with the students (fire, tornado, lockdown, earthquake).

  • Will develop and follow a Professional Growth Plan with the Assistant Principal and Lower School Principal.

  • Will write for the school newsletter several times per year as designated by the Lower School Principal.
